Man, so many good games to choose!
I would not get Dragon Age: Origins for the xbox since it got lower scores on that console due to control issues. If you like making your own choices, I would not get FFVIII.

For RPGs, I definitely recommend Oblivion. If, for whatever reason, you can't or won't get that, try Divinity 2. In Oblivion, your goal is to save the empire from Oblivion; in Divinity it's to stop the demon Damien from taking over the world. Oh, and get revenge for that time he kicked you. Ha!
Divinity features the ability to transform into a Dragon in most areas, though you have to do certain missions before you can. I read somewhere that Dragon Age: Origins is a bit of a let-down, though, so perhaps you should steer clear of that.
